Extra Credit Assignment
Your extra credit opportunities in physics are going to be linked to recent or current articles on science and technology that you can find in newspapers or magazines. You may use an article relating to physics, astronomy, or technology. The only requirements for the article you choose: - You may do up to 5 summaries.
- It must relate to science
- It must be no more than 6 months old
- It must come from a periodical– i.e., a newspaper, a magazine, or a journal (Online sources are fine, as long as they are still periodicals)
- Each summary you submit must be about a different article.
-The file must be submitted in one of the following file formats: rtf, txt, pdf,doc, or docx. The file must have text that can be copied.
Your task is to read the article you choose and write a summary of what you read. Your summary should include the answers to as many of the following questions as possible:
What is the article about?
What is the main idea?
What scientific ideas or principles are mentioned in the article?
How do they relate to the main idea of the article?
Why is the subject of this article important?
How does it affect our world?
How does it affect science?
What other effects could there be?
Are there any implications of future effects, consequences, discoveries, or developments relating to the topic of this article?
Your summaries must be ½ page to 1 full page, typed. You will need to use complete sentences, good grammar, and accurate spelling. You will need to submit the summaries both in digital form on my website (www.millerinium.com) and a paper copy. You also must turn in a printed copy of the articleyou are summarizing. You will need to turn in your summaries by 8:15am Monday November 26th. Extra Credit points will be assigned as follows (remember these are points not % of grade):
10 points – An outstanding summary with almost no flaws or omissions
8 points – A good summary with no serious flaws or omissions
5 points – An adequate summary with some serious flaws or omissions
2 points – An inadequate summary with many serious flaws or omissions
0 points – No Summary or a plagiarized or copied summary
