The Rube Goldberg Project
As you can see from the slides Rube Goldberg was a cartoon that began syndication in 1915. His cartoons depicted a machine that took a mundane task (such as opening a door) and used compound machines to do them. Click here to learn more about Rube Goldberg and his life.

During this project you will create a Rube Goldberg machine to accomplish a simple task as illustrated in his cartoons. Your machine must incorporate the following:

During this project you will create a Rube Goldberg machine to accomplish a simple task as illustrated in his cartoons. Your machine must incorporate the following:
- At least three different types of simple machines
- Seven different energy transfers (in other words you must have no less than seven machines)
- You must either bring the project in or create a video of your project.
- If you create a video you must be in the video. You may get creative with this as long as you are safe about it.
- You will create a blueprint before you build your machine and have a parent approve it.
- You must complete a poster at the end that graphically illustrates your Rube Goldberg machine along with all of the energy transformation.
You may not use or do the following:
- You may not use power tools for the creation of your project (your parent may however).
- You may not use fire, fire crackers or chemicals of any kind.
- You may not harm animals. You must have approval from your parent and myself before building your project.
- If you build your project to bring in to school it must be no larger than 1 cubic meter.
- You must have parental supervision.

Rubric:
- 20% - 3 different types of machines.
- 20% - 7 different energy transfers.
- 20% - Professional presentation.
- 20% - Blueprint submitted by 2-11-13.
- 20% - Machine accomplishes mundane task.
